Right now im using hobbyist steam engines to power them, what would be the next upgrade to make them faster

Powered Furnace from TE2? You can't increase speed really unless you've been feeding it less than its max input; and going past input limits will do nothing other than waste excess energy.
If you're burning charcoal in the hobbyist, you'd be better off burning charcoal in TE2's Steam Engine, as it will produce exactly 2mj/t.
