Sometimes I cheat, whenever I know I have the materials for something, but crafting it would take ages.

Think about it this way.

You are playing a single player game that requires a lot of time/effort to get anywhere.

When you are lost in the nether, or your base blows up because you forgot something, you could (a) ruin your time with the game and waste a bunch of time redoing everything you just did or (b) reload the last backup.

Make backups.

But then, I actually like the early game stages, where you aren't ub3rl33t and things like zombies and skeletons are actual concerns, particularly en masse.

I couldn't agree more ! I resisted the lure of MPS/Quantum/Gravi this time and went with Thaumcraft enchanted armor. It seems to strike a good balance of utility via enchantments with an appropriate level of vulnerability. Even with full enchants, I (still) can't simply shrug off a wave of zombies and a surprise creeper can easily kill me if I'm already damaged.[DOUBLEPOST=1386250393][/DOUBLEPOST]
I rage-cheated yesterday, when I accidentally through my silverwood, thaumium wand into a crucible which proceeded to spout out that nasty purple liquid all over my base. What is that stuff called?

I haven't dropped my prized wand into the crucible (yet), but I can well imagine the rage. The purple stuff is called taint (fluid). If you let it sit on stuff, it will do bad things, like eat through it like acid and it may even grow and spread.

purple goo? I have no idea, but I agree that it's very obnoxious
I hope Azanor will add back those alembics for the crucible so they can suck up any of that stuff if the crucible flows over

Can't agree more. Even when you do everything right, there's leftover aspects.

When the goo gets annoying is when an Infusion goes bad and not only does the purple liquid ruin your ingredient, but it blocks you from replacing it until you clean it up. It will also knock over candles. Some of the more difficult Infusions that are rated Dangerous or even High pretty much require a friend to help out.

Sounds like my crucible will need to be set up surrounded by a 1-deep pit to stop the flow of purple goo :D

On cheating... I cheated in some flowers for my crop-sticks MFR farm. After spending two entire play sessions wandering around looking for roses, I decided I wouldn't feel bad if that tedium were eliminated :)

If you have access to bones, just make some bonemeal and click on a normal grass block. Will spawn random tall grass or flowers in a 5x5 around it.

precisely why I kind of hate infusion crafting. it'd be nice if there was a way to prevent infusions from going bad, but right now it's just very random.
a new golem would be nice for infusion crafting, if an item drops the golem could put it back on the pedestal. would be nice if there's some way to prevent the purple goo and items from getting destroyed, maybe some sort of new multiblock, extra essentia or an upgrade to prevent this from happening... btw, a good tip for the candles, you can better use mob heads or crystals, they don't get knocked out by liquid

I'l cheat in items i have forgotten to bring with me like im setting up a oil well and i forgot to bring a pump but i have one in my base il cheat in one and then delete the one in my base when i get back i call it "Convenience cheating"

Personally, I prefer playing in creative mode over survival.

I don't consider this cheating. I enjoy building things, tinkering with systems, optimizing machines... I don't care for the tedium of gathering resources, or the attempted 'survival' aspect of the game.

Yesterday i cheated one chunk loader because i was too lazy to go to overworld and craft some , but later i throw some stuff like obsidian , few diamonds etc.. :p
See, to me, this isn't cheating. The game unloads chunks for stability reasons, not gameplay reasons. If your system can handle it, there's no reason, in my opinion, to need to craft chunk loaders (obviously, it's a more complicated issue on servers). Other than that, keep inventory, mob griefing false (because screw you, creepers) and when I'm doing a largish build I'll usually use NEI to turn off night time, just to save the tedium of hopping into bed every 10 minutes.

Also, I'll confess to occasionally cheating in an item if it's something I already have, but it's miles away (being 1 golden pipe short while setting up a quarry, for instance), but I'll delete the item when I get to base. I think of it as 'fast-forwarding' =).

What spawns when you bonemeal grass seems to depend on the biome, but yeah I always forget that :D

Another cheat I enjoy... after I get my food supply and first temporary base of operations set up, I often go into fly mode to find the "perfect home". Something pretty with access to useful biomes.

Another cheat I do ontop of that is spawn in a gravichest plate for while I am flying around because it is faster. I delete it when I am finished.

I cheat in items when i've died and it took ages to get them.... The main thing i do lately is use the NEI save state so when I die i can just reclaim all the junk i had on me before death. Also cheating in a portal when i got lost in the nether hunting a fortress not finding it, then getting shot at by 3 ghasts at once.

Yeah thoese line markings for the roads blocks in the chisel mod, for what every reason I can't make them.

The only cheating I can remember doing, is spawning in goggles of revealing. I don't use Thaumcraft, but had managed to build my base near a bad node. Eventually, the whole area was littered with wisps when I logged in.

I used the goggles to locate the node, wrote down the coordinates, and then used NBT Explorer to change it into a pure node. Not a wisp in sight after that. :)

I do this at the very beginning of every world. Fly around until I find a nice place to call home, then drop back into survival and get started for real. I'd much rather be living in a nice environment, and not spend hours finding that environment and moving all my stuff into it.

I import a pre built mansion and landscaping.
I set mob griefing to false.
I then give my self a barrel of every item in the game and a tank of XP.
I give myself fully fitted maxed out modular armor.

After about 5 mins I close the game, and then rant on the forums about how there is no challenge in MC. :p
