Can't join modded LAN

Title Can't join modded LAN

Details of the issue I wanted to introduced modded minecraft to my mother using this pack. However after weeks of playing around we have yet to be able to join a LAN on either of our computers. We both have really good gaming laptops and never had issues joining LAN servers while playing vanilla. We both have the exact same untouched mod pack and both are the same version as well.

Whenever we try to join the other's server we both get the same message of 'io.netty.channel.AbstractChannel$AnnotatedConnectExecption: Connection timed out: no further information:'

I haven't found any concrete solution to solve this problem. Can someone lend a hand please? I'm at my wits end with this as I have been getting nowhere.

Make sure to allow the traffic in the local firewall
(solution is not to turn the firewall of - even if that might solve this issue, you create a new greater issue)

Checked the firewall and everything seems to be fine there :(
