I can't stop building things that are basically dark age level huts and castles.

Which is really depressing when I start tossing in pipes, quarries, mining carts, etc...

So what all do you folks do to make more modern, or even futuristic builds?
 
I've heard that their are some people that google what they want to build look at the images. Choose one they fancy and use it for a model.
There is a forum section dedicated to members showing off the stuff. There are a few threads dedicated to topics similar to yours. I just can't remember where they are at.

I will go look the stuff up and edit this post with a few links.

Sorry, I was really trying to find a thread that I made some posts in. I am horrible at interacting with my creativity to do nice to look at things. That thread had lots of good advice that I don't remember being a part of. It would have been a real good read for the both of us. I think.

Also, if you have an idea and want to test some of it go into a single player creative world 1st. That way you can play with color pallets and test build the frame works etc. I'm not the best builder in the world. But I think I do alright. Also, carpenter blocks and chisel should be two mods you want in almost every build.

But a lot of it playing with things till you get something you like. The pics below are from my current build. Almost all of what you see is from chisel on top of carpenter block (slabs and stairs). Also, throw in a bit of randomness into the build.

Do you like steam punk at all? I don't like most iterations of it. Sounds fitting though.

I like the media I have experienced that blend hi fantasy with sci-fi. That has a lot of possible blends of it too. I like the ones that use a mostly pre-Renaissance (yes I butchered the English language enough for one day. I will just copy the word from somewhere else and paste it here, and avoid mangling the spelling of something I know so little about.) hi fantasy settings with a little sci-fi thrown in. The most memorable example of this for me is Final Fantasy (1, not the series). Other good examples of the genre mix are Shadowrun (the multi-author books), Phantasy Star, and Wild Cards. I am sure there are many more.

I am not much for hi fantasy or full on sci-fi. They both are good. I just like seeing them mixed the most. The combination just opens up so many awesome possibilities.

Almost forgot. Death Gate Cycle was one of my favorite series growing up. I have trouble reading such long winded books any more, they are fascinating though. I really wish the author of Wheel of Time had been able to do a proper finish. I never made it past Knife of Dreams anyways. So I guess it doesn't matter.
 
Nice mention of a great several series in there!

I hadn't thought of going a Death Gate style at all in Minecraft, pretty much ever. (When the hell will book 3 come out? I mean honestly!)

Or even a Final Fantasy 6 or even 7 to be honest. Such great examples and it fits really well with the mod pack I built, although I might need to look at putting Industrial craft back in. Right now I am only using BC and BC additions. I removed Immersive Engineering because my son could never get the heaters to work regardless of how many water wheels we wired to them.

Which Death Gate might you be referring to? I only know of one. If there is another good one out it would be nice to know.

I really liked the end to the series. All the characters were extremely well written too. Even the ones like Bane. Parts of the books would drag on. That seams pretty likely with that writing style though.

I am glad you enjoyed the suggestions. I really need to take my own advice. It would bring my building along immensely if I could manage it. I tend to just make stuff up as I go. Whether I am in game or out. Actually researching and using other projects as inspiration would make it much easier for me to finish a project.

Would stop stuff from happening when I run out of ideas to. Like the time in Pathfinder where my little brother's character fought a giant Habanero Cheese Wheel. I ran out of ideas and just used the first thing that comes to mind. Of course knowing how to actually play the game would help too. Knowing the rules doesn't work with those sorts of games. It takes so much more then that to play them.

I had thought I had read all they had done to be honest. This might be on of the few I haven't read.
 
If you do, once you finish the books for the four elemental realms (which are the first four anyways,) do stop and consider where all the Realms actually originated from. It's surprising overall.
