I would attempt to make this myself, but my knowledge of coding in general isn't top notch, I couldn't find any good tutorials for Forge (though these forums seem like a good resource and I'll check out Santa's links if I ever decide to try this for realz). I'm short on time and have other priorities, such as my modpack.
Now, on to my idea:
Fairly simple, just a block that makes lightning strike it (perhaps several blocks higher to avoid fires). I've tried to do this with Autonomous Activators from TE, but apparently the lightning code in vanilla MC is absolute crap...
Variations: Make this block require RF, make it respond to redstone, add a new "Lightning Dynamo/Engine" which generates RF from lightning, which strikes it more often... Config options for all this, IE enable/disable the lightning engine and maker separately, configure how much RF is required/generated per strike, configure whether the lightning can strike each block in broad daylight, not just during rain, or only during rain, or only during thunderstorms, etc...
If it helps guide any kind people who actually decide to take up this noble cause, here's my reasoning for wanting it:
I can't have a real badass evil lair without giant lightning towers.
I just want to get this idea off my chest so that if someone with better coding knowledge/more time and commitment than me can take it up. I'll do them myself if required, but I don't have time yet.
