Recurrent complex is great for that, it's like ruins but with cooler structures and better integrated generation, depending on your modslist I even have some custom structures you could use

Looks promising, but is there a way to get a complete list of the default structures without digging through the jar? Visual references would also be nice. Knowing how to whitelist or blacklist them in the configs is useless without a master list to work from. As a custom pack novice, this is a crucial first step before learning to make my own.

Okay, I don't have a list of the defaults but if you download the mod and run it a file called structures should appear in your modpack instance from there you can manage what is active/inactive, each file in the active folder should have a fairly explanative name for what structure it creates

Those folders generated with no content for me...something may be amiss...

I really like Realistic Terrain Gen. It doesn't add anything new, it just makes what is already there better and lets you configure things like caves & villages. I usually just ladder down to bedrock for my mineshaft, this time I decided to tunnel down 5 steps & landing.

I'm using an item conduit from hopper to hopper to get the vanilla furnace to feed itself charcoal.

Vanilla spawner mob farm on the roof of the nether. With Open Blocks elevators, I don't even need to break a hole in the bedrock to get back out.

Still no joy. Most of the variable fields in the config are blank, maybe I have to tell it to look at itself?

Could you copy/paste your config in a spoiler tag so I can see what it should look like?
I believe the author put the structure files in a separate download so that it would be easier to add a custom structure pack without having to go through the original structures if you didn't want some of them in your world.

My Google-fu is failing, I can find no reference to the existence of a separate download for structure files.

I've looked into recurrent complex and it seems to be implented within the mod I'm afraid. It's still a very powerful mod for adding your own structures in though

I have been doing a lot of work on my base. I like where I'm going with it, but I'm almost done breeding mana beans & AE2 autocrafting is ready to start setting up patterns, so it must be time to scrap everything & start over. Once I learn to use Recurrent Complex and get a fair number of structures set up, I probably will start over. I need to update my mod list & start tracking which ones have 1.8 versions available.

Finally, a version of my villager breeder without microblocks or carpenter's slopes that I can stand. It will have to be a rare spawn, maybe only mushroom island shore & beach biomes.

Some beacons copied more or less from one of Welsknight Gaming's videos. Not sure about doing it in red brick, but I like the other 2.

Why not mix some materials? Different materials for the foundations, the pillars, brazier and the roof?

Recurrent complex works with carpenters blocks and tile entities such as decoctaft stuff btw

I did try netherbrick pillars & brazier with red brick roof & foundation, but that was decidedly worse. Other than that, it is a question of do I spend my time fiddling with that one little thing, or do I move on to the next idea rattling around my head? I might have to try a stone brazier in a netherbrick surround, though.

With the idea that I might someday share, I'm trying to work out structures that will be passable with mostly vanilla blocks for now, but this is good to know if I get to the point where I'm getting more complex or if I come up with something really amazing.

Just swapping the stone & netherbrick was a little too sharp a contrast, but railcraft's sandyblock seems to work well for both. Decent haystacks are challenging, I may have to go with carpenters slopes on that. Well variant on the right.

It was a simple config issue, so I've got the RC structures generating. It looks like I will have to dig into the jar file to get a complete list.

I found 65 active structures in the RC jar. Here is the list.

I think I've got a handle on the Recurrent Complex basics. Here is my structure row. I've even got a little shell game going with the haystacks. Getting the size right and scattering some random bales around the central stack helped more than carpenter's wedges. Next step is spawning in the RC structures one at a time to see if I want to include them in my game.

I like to take advantage of the spawn area chunkloading, and prepping the area for a base can be a hassle, especially when going through a period of frequent restarts. Now I have a quick start spawn structure, giving me a basic smeltery (like those in villages, needing some work to get started), a complete set of iron armor and tools, and enough level ground to begin building. The dotted area means that other things (like a mountainside) can generate in that space.
