The coolio crystals are really the *only* reason I haven't disabled the mod entirely.
Reika's "reported" attitude is beginning to concern me.

"Apparently, Reika broke that config on purpose." (from this thread)
"Reika PURPOSELY coded them to ignore MFFS forcefields." (from Thank you MeteorCraft for...")

I don't like having someone else impose their idea of 'the one true way MC should be played' on my play - it reminds me to much of what irks me with buildcraft and IC2 right now.

Some mod devs can be particularly trolly, mostly in good fun. Don't get caught up in drama over it as such can spoil the good bits.

Also if you thought the meteors were bad, you should try the rotarycraft rail gun & laser. Far, far more destructive to landscapes/bases.

Geostrata rocks are laaaaaaaaame. I'd disable them soon, but I don't want to lose chunks of my world... it'd create some nasty pockets of air where monsters can just spawn. The crystals are coolio tho.

I love the crystals. I've dropped a regen crystal and a saturation crystal right next to my blood altar. It took me a few hours and I'm already within striking distance of a tier 4 altar. I just need some weak blood shards to make the bloodstone and I'm there. The runes were crazy easy to make with permanent regen/saturation.

Bound armour, here I come!

The latter has been addressed as completely untrue; see that thread for details.

As for the former, yes, I removed the option (though of course the line will persist in old configs). As I said on another GeoStrata thread:
I removed the option because there is little point in using GeoStrata if you are only in it for the crystals. Given that I also receive frequent requests to disable those (usually from admins who think that potions are overpowered and thus crystals as well), there would be no mod left. If this was removing one small feature (like a biome from BoP) I could understand. However, taking out either part of GeoStrata is more like requesting an option to remove research from ThaumCraft or automation from AE - half the mod.
Additionally, the GeoStrata rocks are not purely aesthetic. For example, granite is creeper-proof.

I don't like having someone else impose their idea of 'the one true way MC should be played' on my play - it reminds me to much of what irks me with buildcraft and IC2 right now.
That reasoning is exactly why I do not give the ability to take away many parts of my mods. Too many people come to me essentially saying ("I do not want the people on my server to have this feature, add a config plz"), and they are basically saying they have the right to dictate others' play style by doing so.

To make matters worse, a distressingly large - though my no means majority - subset of them are basically turning the now-removed features into donator-only (like one server which put the RC bedrock breaker behind a $50 donation).

Not directed at you just a generalized statement about what was said:

While I tend to generally agree with this; there are cases in which I disagree. Some servers are meant to follow a theme or need, ex. cases of open servers trying to be as griefer-proof as possible. Some parts of mods make this very hard or near impossible without either a config to stop such things or outside mods or plugins to stop it as well. I find the former solution to invariably be a more suitable choice for these situations as outside forces tend to cause conflicts or work as a duct tape type fix. We all know duct tape is great but splash a little water on the adhesive and it falls limp like it was a 93 year old man who got hit full force by Mike Tyson. Don't get me wrong I do understand reasoning, whether it be moral or it goes against a mod authors wishes for his mod, against this as well I just tend to side for configs in some cases.

In other news; I love rotarycraft :3

True, but I am taking the "lesser of two evils" approach. From what I can gather, for every 'legitimate' reason (griefing being the only one I can think of) there are five or more motivated by "It does not feel right", "I think it lags", or "OVERPOWERED!!1!!!".

'Tis true sadly, and I can respect that.

Ha. I did suspect that explicit support would actually need to be added for MFFS to actually work. So my apologies for perpetuating mistruths.

On the GeoStrata front, I personally find the crystals a valuable enough addition that I would, in fact, happily use them without the rock generation. As to why I would prefer the rock generation to be disabled: two reasons
1. Perhaps as a side effect of your creeper-proofing the geostrata rocks are a pain to mine. Especially with mod tools such as IC2 drills, which should be more than capable of tearing through them like butter. I havn't tried TiC picks or Thaumcrafts excavation focus / pickaxe of the core yet.
2. 16 new, hard to mine, cobble varieties are clogging up my sorting system - and they don't "compress" with extra utilities cobble compression recipes so they are harder to store.

If it wasn't for the difficulty in mining them, I'd more appreciate the extra utility they offer in terms of aesthetics (and creeper proofing). As it is, with the option to disable them gone, and the impediment they are causing to simple branch mining with the tools I am currently using, I'd consider disabling the mod entirely on my server were it not for the holes in the world it'd leave.

And yes, as a server operator I am imposing my will on my players in the exact same fashion I accused you of :p But I have a general agreement from my (small) group of players that they are also having difficulty mining the stuff.

I just filtered a trashcan with a single piece of GeoSt granite and told it to ignore metadata. No offense to the creators, but the new rocks look baaaaad, and they are just cobblestone by any other definition than artistically.

The IC2 drill is for some reason failing to recognize them as rock, and is as such taking a long time to mine them. Vanilla and RotaryCraft picks have no issue; the bedrock pick in particular was given an 80% speed boost.

While it is intended that some rocks take slightly longer or shorter, a simple failure to mine is not intended.

Then smelt it into the smooth stone.
