Lossy transfer nodes/drums?

I was draining some drums of oil into my railcraft tank with an extra utils retrieval node and somehow lost about 80% of the oil. I had 29 full drums and was left with only ~1k buckets in the tank.
Does anyone know what specifically could have caused this?
