FTB Infinity Evolved - Sapling Issue?

Some players on my server have reported something relating to FTB Infinity Evolved Sapling Growth.
Was just wondering if it has been reported here.

Apparently the Easy Mode Tree/Sapling growth has the same settings as hardmode?
Still trying to understand the issue myself - this is what they say is happening:

It seems any tree that can be planted in a 4x4 (saplings) no longer grows as such on evolved (spruce, birch and oak, not sure on any others?). Rather just growing one tree from one sapling.

Sounds like certain tress are not growing into 4x4 formations anymore, instead they are growing 1x1 tree trunks.
Another player says that this is the hardmode behavior, rolling over into easy mode.

We aren't having that problem on my server, we are even able to make mega spruces, I have a couple in a tree farm on our server, and we are playing in expert mode. So i'm not sure what's going on with these people :/
