I like your thinking, but it doesn't do well in creative mode, still requiring the same amount of blocks as normal and still giving you blocks. Do a stack or two of it, sure, but after that, get a Creative Builders Wand from Extra Utilities and use it on some grass. Its free on grass and can build upwards a block very easily.
Shift+Click yourself the block you want to place and the block you want to replace. You know have 111 of both which means, infinite blocks :)

Where else?
true, but it helps. (im sure you could set something up to empty your inventory of dirt. dunno what though.)

As a reference since it was previously a mystic forest the invisible light blocks are likely glow flowers(Whatever they're called) So you'll want to build the natural ground layer up 2-3 blocks to remove them.

Since server refused to run MCPC+ due to a fixed permgen size that wasn't enough, I downloaded the map, installed a local server, got worldedit going and manually //regen the whole region.

It's all alive again :D

... now to reupload the 1GB map back to server o_O

Hm, didn't realize. Shame you still have to clean out the dirt now and then to continue, eh?

Actually, if you're in creative mode it doesn't care about your inventory being full, it simply deletes the excess blocks.

ICBM healing explosives. You can heal chunks one by one without a problem and when you get to the base, do some manual work or move the entire fucking base wit MFFS and a creative energy cell, then heal the chunk again and move back the base :p
