So I've been having a blast playing with some friends on our little server, things going smoothly..
Then one of the guys I play with was wondering why there were always wisps around his place, come to discover he had a Thaumcraft altar dungeon thang on top of the hill, no biggy, broke the spawner, all was well.

For a week or so.

Fast foward to the past couple days, and there have been so many wisps spawning it defies belief. He can almost no longer leave his home without being zapped by 10 billion balls of light. We have named the area Wispopolis.

Anyone know why this might be happening? Did he disturb an ancient burial ground? Has he angered the gods?

Do you mean the black obelisk platform with columns around it, that originally has a chest in the center...or do you mean a surface dungeon with a zombie and skeleton spawner.

If it's the former, there is a wisp spawner underneath the center pedestal. If he's standing within 16 blocks, they'll spawn.

In both cases, wisps will also spawn from then nodes because it's an unstable or evil node. These will spawn anytime the chunk is loaded, even if no player is nearby. Wisps also don't despawn when there is no player near.

That would it, then. Poor guy should move, I guess.

A couple of guys with lightning wands will clean up the problem long enough to put a glass box around the node that's responsible for this and they'll all probably have a good time doing it. If that doesn't work, I don't know, nuke the site from orbit?

If he plants a silverwood he can damage the wisps with the pure node. You can also combine a bigger node with it to change the type of node.

Solution: Get a nano suit, you will need enough protection to get there and make a "box" around the node.. If it is in a hill, You will find it exactly in the center of the upper lvl, if its an obsidian totems thing, you will need to make a box 10 blocks high. (You could just destroy the spawner beneath too to lower the spawn rate).

After you did that, just arrow/mining laser/wand of lighting/wand of fire/seeker bullets gun/nuke them.

What you will have? A cleaner aura, a nice essence farm, and a lot of essence in you inventory (combined with exp).

I see that much wisp and i think of how lucky you are.. They may be a nuisance but in the end, that much wisp is a great advance in your thaumcraft development.

Build a Frame-Spaceship, put a nuke cannon on it, get someone to chunkload Wispopolis, fire the nuke from distance.

Look behind you
I think you should just get the best armour possible, get a couple of guys with lightning wands, and get them to box the nodes.

Dear God. Desperate times call for desperate measures. I know Starways Congress has made this illegal, but I don't care. Get the Little Doctor.

is that what doctor who calls his.... you know?
No. I think it's referring to something along Doctor Device (basically a superweapon that disrupts all matter bonding in a potentially infinite area, or at least something along those lines).

Ender's Game. I should re-read those books now that I'm an adult.

Hmm, I think I have an idea for the next best thing though. Entities can pass through Mystcraft portals...
