Hello, my name is Brandonn (I also go by bRan; check out MiniCTM.com)
I recently discovered Technic and quickly ran away from it. It seemed like a great idea, but it also looked like a mess. Using their MOD list and a few other lists I found, I put together my own pack of sorts. Then I found FTB. I saw blips of it on my YouTube subs but I just figured it was some new multiplayer thing. I'm glad I discovered it!
I'm still using my own compilation for now, until the FTB is updated to 1.4.5. (It's coming soon right? )
But my main thought was, where is FTB going, what is it's future? I've poked around a little and I get the impression that the team is working directly with the MOD Devs, and I also pick up that there is some interest in balancing it all.
My focus when I was deciding what MODs to use was for MODs that would work together and enhance eachother.
Here is what I have for now:
backpack v1.5.4 (1.4.5)
buildcraft v3.2.0 (1.4.5)
CraftGuide v1.6.3.8 (1.4.5)
ExtrabiomesXL v3.5.0 (1.4.5)
forestry v1.6.2.0 (1.4.5)
industrialcraft-2 v1.109.113 (1.4.5)
ironchest v4.4.0.177 (1.4.5)
More_Bows_Forge v1.4.4 (1.4.5)
OmniTools-2.2.2 (1.4.5)
Railcraft v6.8.0.0 (1.4.5)
ReiMinimap v3.2_05 (1.4.5)
ThermalExpansion v2.0.9 (1.2.5)
I was surprised to see that FTB contains most of these. I didn't use any of the add-on MODs because I still barely know these MODs I didn't want to over complicate anything. I didn't realize that Forestry added backpacks at the time I added "backpack v1.5.4" but I really like the recipe it adds with binding the leather. I have "CraftGuide v1.6.3.8" because I couldn't get NEI to work for 1.4.5. I didn't really want ironchest, the largest chest feels a little cheaty. And I'm still not sure about Thermal Expansion, it seems a little OP. And I actually dislike that the machines with it have a way better interface that some of the machines from the other MODs. I with they were all equally awesome...
I've avoided using some of the popular MODs that don't feel like Minecraft to me. Myst, the portal gun, Computer Craft, Steve's Carts. Some of these just seem too advanced, or add 'too much' for me.
I have 2 main hopes for this project. The first is for the team to really interlock and balance all these MODs so it feels like that were made for each other.
My second hope is for a new MOD, one that can add some sort of game mechanic that let's you research items and 'discover' the recipes. I have an idea for this, but I'm no modder. If I ever work out the details I'll post them up here. NEI meets this need for now, I may use NEI and try to disable every part except when you push r or whatever over an item.
Love to hear what you think.
