I generated a Mushroom Island Biome but with Void generation with Eternal Day, No Weather etc. Plus, it's a Single Biome but am still not getting any Mooshrooms to spawn (cows basically).

Does anyone have any ideas why they are not spawning in my MystCraft Age?

Thanks in advance,
Andy

Ok, I'll try it. Thanks for the help.

EDIT: I just went back onto the world and found cows on the last part of grass I was removing to replace with the purple stuff lol. What are the requirements for them to spawn or whatever?

Passive mob spawning mechanics have changed a lot. They only generate naturally in 1 in 10 chunks that contain grass. They can still spawn just like other mobs but are much more rare and they require the air blocks above the grass to have a light level of 9 or higher. You would be better off generating another mystcraft world with the mushroom biome and normal/flat generation and just dropping the cows there through a mystcraft portal to that void world and breed them or whatever you want to do with them. Getting them to naturally spawn in that world would be long and difficult without putting down grass over a huge area to try and increase your chances.

I'll be having grass patches (3 chunks wide) 16*3 = 48 AND 16*16 = 256 AND 256*3 = 768 spawning spaces per layer with 5 layers on each side making a total of 7680 spawning spaces?

I think that math is correct. Meaning I have enough space, 3 air spaces between layers, and light. So I am prepared to give it a try.
Any tips though?

Well there are easier ways of farming mooshrooms for one... That is very possible though maybe. Mooshrooms have weird spawn behaviors, when using a NEI spawned mooshroom spawner they will only spawn on grass not mycelium, I think in mushroombiomes it might not care what block is in it's place at all for mooshroom spawning, but I can't guarantee anything. But a feeding station from railcraft would breed the mooshrooms for you, you just have to automate the wheat supply to the station, multiple stations would even breed them faster. The souls shards mod is even better if you can just straight up kill enough mooshrooms to complete tier 5 soul shard you can create a redstone controlled spawner that way (needs at least version 1.25 for it to work with passive mobs, not sure which is in the packs atm).

Thanks, I'll go with the Soul Shards idea if this doesn't work after some more trying.

Thanks all for the help.

Side question. I have soul shards but I have not gotten them to work with passive mobs. Is there some special one needs to do for them? I had three new untouched shards on my hot bar and went cow murdering. A stack of leather later none of the shards show cow or any kills.

Are you using Soul Shards 1.26 which is what should be in the most recent versions of the mod packs? If you are using an older version then it won't work. I just tried it on mine and I got a tier 5 cow shard in a test world easily.

Good question. I'm using the current version of the Mindcrack pack. A quick look at the update thread says that only most recently in v7 is soul shards 1.26. Woot I will have to go try again. Thanks for the info.
