Should there be a vanilla pack option?

I think it would be a good idea to have a vanilla option as I like building mod packs for myself (and I'm sure others do to) but it is a bit tiresome having to clear out another mod pack to replace it with my mods (especially when I want to keep the originals). Also I am paranoid that if I select to update the pack then my pack will all be replaced. Should I be worried?
 
In the next version of the launcher (v2), you will be able to run vanilla from the launcher. Also, I believe I saw something regarding building your own packs, but I'm not certain about that, so don't quote me.

If you do update a pack you've modified, the pack will be reverted to all original mods, any you've removed or added will be re-added/removed, respectively.

I had assumed as much with the updating. Is there a way to prevent the launcher from prompting me to update? Good to hear about the vanilla option though.
