So with the new pack versions coming shortly, I'm about to edit the Magic World one and leave it with just the magic mods and Forestry (for Thaumic Bees and tree breeding) and Thermal Expansion (I freaking love this mod).

BUT, I like a lot more the copper/tin colour of TE than Forestry so I want to swap the ore generation. I know how to do that, config, change to false/true blah blah blah.

I'll still be able to use the TE ores to craft Forestry machinery right? If I'm not mistaken, when mods implement the Ore Dictionary the ores are interchangeable aren't they?

You are correct, ingots are interchangable.

In fact, FTB switched entirely to using TE ores in the Mindcrack and DW20 packs. This is possible because Thermal Expansion allows custom configurable ore generation for all the standard mod ores (copper, tin, silver, lead), as well as adding additional vanilla ore spawns to what is naturally generated (especially for iron, which many mods simply devour).

Try and take a look at TE's config file from Mindcrack. You can copy&paste the worldgen section to your Magic World TE config file, and disable worldgen in all other mods you're wanting to run (like Forestry). Then generate a test world and see how it feels. Using the settings from Mindcrack, you're probably going to get a fairly resource rich world for your purposes, since Mindcrack runs a lot of resource hungry mods and you don't. If you don't like it, slightly tune down the number of ore veins generated. Remember, settings for vanilla ores are bonus content; setting them to 0 will not cause that ore type to disappear completely. It will just mean you're getting exactly what vanilla gives you and not a scrap more.

By the way: TE intentionally spawns some ores away from the "diamond level" so that you have to mine in multiple height levels to get them all. If you don't like it, you can configure the height band as well.

I'm wondering why Magic World wouldn't also use TE copper and tin as they can be set to Forestry's values if that was wanted. Would be more streamlined if every pack used the same IDs for ores. That would still leave GT and RP2 gems, though, but they're a bit special in that they actually spawn very differently.

Ah cheers Omicron, that's quite useful info right there! Yeah I might do some testing, seems fun, though i don't think I'll keep the increased ore generation 'cause magic doesn't need that much ores...

Zelfana, my guess would be disabling any "processing" mods such as Buildcraft, Thermal Expansion, Railcraft and Steve's Carts. I mean, many people disable these mods and keep Forestry for bees. If the ore generation was from Thermal Expansion you got problems right there. Forestry copper and tin definitely suffices for any machines related to bees, even if all aforementioned mods are disabled.
