Of course I used Xycraft blocks. But that does not prevent the spawning of mobs on top of steamboilers, furnaces, coke oven, blast furnaces ... or literally any non-xycraft, opaque fullblock.

The basic "storage" block works a charm. No need to go the extra mile and craft something fancy like shields or similar. Except maybe, to have gone the extra mile of prettyfication.
Oh god. It's so pretty. But yeah I get whatcha mean. Just use the F7 thing and half slab/light the areas that need it
