Hello.

After watching a whole bunch of direwolf20/sotmead videos, I really liked the thaumonomicon. I wonder if it's functionality (the ability to provide useful information on mod items and mechanics, less about the research and unlocking part) could be expanded to other mods.

In my vision I see "The FTB Lexicon" which is a book that contains all of the information about the mods that the various packs contain. This could be highly useful and great for beginners that are unfamiliar to the mods.

The only problem is that the information that could be in a book like that does not exist (information about the various mods is very unorginazed). I think that we could all contribute to such mod, where a coder creates the book while the community provides the contents of such book.

I really hope that such a mod would rise to the FTB community.

Edit: Now that I think about it, it could be sort of an expansion to NEI where the item you click will include it's useage.

So it would just be an ingame wiki? Wiki is already in the making, that should be enough. And everything that gregtech hasn't changed can be found in the mods' own wikis.

Pretty much. And why not incorporating that ingame? We could always settle for less, but why not dream about more? :)

It is just so much work and the pack isn't quite ready yet and configs are still being tweaked etc. I wouldn't dream about something like this until well into next year.

I think this would be a good ideal if there was a book or a nei add-on that told basic info on items the aether mod did something like this and it was helpful to find out what some of the items in game did without having to tab out all the time until your use to the mod

Well.... with the Forge API shouldn't be too hard to hook into other mods to get their block/item info (like NEI does now).... only thing is one would have to compile a database of some sort within the mod (series of config files?) for information to be pulled from, as well as integration with the server.

Hardest part may be just assembling the information in a decent format for display in-game and getting permission to display it as such (some might want certain things hidden, at least until crafted once, and others might prefer their in-game guide (Thaumcraft) and want just a simple "Getting Started").

This is actually peaking my interest now....
