Greetings,

I was curious if there is a limit as to how many enchantments you can put on a wand and/or if certain enchantments prevent you from adding other enchantments?

I enchanted some wands directly today, hoping to get Potency & Charging on them. Some were successful, some were not. For the most part, every wand got Potency, but some DID NOT get Charging. I then decided to try and put a Charging I book on the wand but it wouldn't let me. I'm curious as to what's going on.

The Wands that I could not put Charging I on:
Wand of Excavation: Frugal III, Treasure II, Potency III
Wand of Fire: Frugal III, Potency III
Wand of Frost: Frugal III, Potency III

My theory is, Frugal prevents you from adding Charging to wands. I just want to hear what you people think.

Thanks

You are correct from my experiences. I could never get both Frugal nor Charging, just one or the other.

That's what I figured since it was the only common thing between the 3 wands and I saw Direwolf put Charge I on his Fire Wand today.

Is Frugal worth it? The wand still breaks with Frugal while Charge prevents it from breaking, right?

Charge will drain the vis in the aura very quickly! So be very careful with it. So if you can support your declining vis because of your wand, then charging is the better option.

Similarly: repair doesn't stack with unbreaking. However, due to unbreaking being a vanilla enchant it's still possible to get them both to show up on an item.

Charging/Repair vis usage is minimal compared to all the other uses for vis available to you. I wouldn't run around with your wand of fire constantly on, but anything short of that and I doubt you'll really notice the difference.

Eh, the vis usage from charging and repair definitely isn't negligible. Try taking a pick with repair to the nether and see how much the aura goes down after mining a bunch of netherrack. You'll be surprised.

To be fair the neither does not much vis in the frist place. There are large parts of it that does not even have nodes. Becuase of this there is little linkage between nodes. So yes any vis useage in the nethier will have a much greater impact then overwolrd

Frugal is basically Unbreaking for wands. Higher level of Frugal, wand lasts longer period. And Charge doesn't prevent it from breaking, it recharges it from local aura sources. But if you don't have enough Aura to recharge your wand(for example, in the End, and in some MystCraft Ages), it's just as durable as a normal unenchanted wand of it's kind.
Same with Repair. Repair can't work without nearby Aura sources, but if one had a way to repair the item you have Unbreaking on without losing the enchant and without costing local aura, using Unbreaking would make more sense if you take care of the tool. Kind of a tradeoff, do I think I'll be using this wand away from good aura sources, and if so, will I be able to stop it from breaking so that I can recharge it back home? Or should I use Frugal and, say, Ars Magicka and the Arcane Reconstructor?(IIRC it works on enchanted items without losing the enchantments, so that's a plus)
