Switching Servers-- Want to move Thauncraft files for players

I am switching from a Direwolf20 server to a FTB Ulitmate Server..

Can someone give me the file location of the Thaumcraft files that saves the research / unlocked receipts in the thaumonomicon?

is it saved on the client or server?

Thanks for the support, I'm trying to save my players research time.

In the world's folder of the server, there is a file called research.dat. That's the one you need to copy.

Didn't research recently get moved to player files?

from 3.0.2 patch notes:

- in the ongoing battle to prevent data loss, research data is now saved with the players vanilla NBT data. As a happy side-effect this seems to solve the offline/online issue. \o/

Oh, right. I checked it on my server, which was still using the old format. But you're right, they're now in the players' files. So you can't just copy the whole file, since it also contains data abobut the players' inventory, position etc. If you really want to transfer the NBT data for the research, you need to open the .dat files with NBTExplorer and change them manually, since for some reason NBTExplorer doesn't support copy/paste.
So unless you find a NBT editor that makes that easier, that might be quite tedious, depending on how much your players have researched and how many there are on your server.

I think we are actually in a transition period atm, so the data may be kept in both files.

That's from reading over the patch notes, I didn't verify.

I found the Research file on my old server, moved it to the new server "World" folder, did nothing.

so can you give me the location of the file in the Client?

and the Exact name if the file?

It is stored on the server.

The user Jim would have its research stored in world/players/Jim.dat

You can use NBTEdit (http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/6661-nbtedit/) to view and edit the file.

On the old server <Direowlf20> in the WORLD folder there is a Research.dat file with all of the players data, in one file. The data is seperated by the player's name.
When I moved this file to my New Server <Ultimate> World Folder, I then restarted the server. and logged in, I took a look at the thaumonomicon and they were all greyed out, it was back to the beginning. so this Research.dat file either isn't correct for the new server, or they don't use it.

Yeah, the research.dat is from an old Thaumcraft version. Look at the last modified date.
