in infinity is there a way to use high pressure boiler to convert steam into power. Like in ultimate there was power converters which did it. What does it now?

Power converters was such an awesomely cheaty way to get power from steam :)

For EU, you want to use a railcraft steam turbine which eats 320 mb/t and outputs 200 eu/t.

For RF, you have a lot of options but the most efficient is probably the Big Reactors turbine which can consume up to 2000 mb/t and output wide ranges of power depending on its configuration. 15,000 RF/T isn't out of the question even with default configs though.

awesome ty. And yeah it was that's one of the reasons i loved steam boilers XD

Which is probably why it went away. I thought it was a fair mod, I don't understand the "power wars" and all the butthurt, but... people will be people I guess.

The game really needs a simple, basic way to convert between the power schemes.

Power Converters still exists. You can add it at any time. Its even currently maintained for 1.7.10.

The only reason you don't see it everywhere in all packs ever is because it tends to deprecate other engines and the mods they belong to. Its handy that a single block can output millions of kinds of power but its not "realistic" even in minecraft terms and can remove some sense of challenge/accomplishment :)

@asb3pe I just re-read my comment and wanted to clarify:

A lot of the time I don't actually find the mod to be cheaty. When its converting power from "electricity" to "electricity", it seemed pretty kosher. So RF to EU etc. I used it a lot for this and it was fun.

But specifically with steam it was just way too easy to dodge around the engines and such that were originally required to produce "electricity" from "potential."

Other than that, a very cool mod :)

And now in Infinity we have to use RedNet energy cable spam to use even a single quantum solar for RF yeah???

Oh wow, thank you, didn't know that. Just made my first 10 Quantum Hybrid Solar Panels this week, with more on the way of course. :) I really don't need RF tho, the Big Reactors turbines are terrific for making almost unlimited quantity of RF. And there's so many ways to send that power anywhere in the universe, wirelessly.

Converting EU to RF is not really "game-breaking" because it's so easy for almost anybody to make and store humongous quantity of RF, even in early game you can have a BigReactor up and going quickly. What most people are looking for is an easy way to convert RF to EU, to avoid going thru the whole IC2 tech tree to get to Quantum Hybrid Solars or an IC2 Nuclear Reactor where you can finally get "BigReactor"-level of power generation on the EU side.

I guess I do understand why there's such a battle/discussion over power and power conversion. Despite some ups and downs, I've had fun working with the IC2 mod this past week and I'm glad there wasn't an easy shortcut to get thru it quickly.

I actually have a lot of fun with energy conversion in the world I'm playing now, where I have Big Reactors but most of the big power consumption is GregTech (EU). I could go and download PowerConverters right away if I wanted, but instead I'm taking on a harder challenge. I have pneumaticcraft so I'm converting RF to Compressed Air using the Flux Compressor, and then converting Compressed Air to EU using the Pneumatic Generator. The whole thing generates a lot of Heat which ruins efficiency of the conversion, so I have cooling arrays (heat sinks and such) to make it go more smoothly.

Definitely not everyone's cup of tea, but a really fun project for me.

Yeah IMO the whole problem stems from having LOADS of MJ/RF mods on one side not really doing a whole lot about balancing "power per effort" uniformly, and then having IC2/GT on the other side that have always made power production a challenging/involved part of the mods.

Converting EU->MJ/RF have never been an issue since EU was balanced and reasonably hard to produce in large quantities. This is why this option have also been included for years in the IMO very high quality mod Forestry. But the other way around have always had lots of less balanced and sometimes OP options that would completely ruin the purpose and goals of IC2.

It kinda boils down to the same issue that Reika is having atm with someone wanting to make a addon to his mods that completely circumvents the shaft system and just makes everything run directly on RF. If people can just build BRs, run REC/EIO conduits etc. and then completely skip everything that is creative, unique and good about IC2, then what is the point of it all?
