Stabilized Spawner troubles

I am trying to get the draconic stabilized spawners to work. I am able to put on the draconic and wyvrn core. But when I try to add a soul into it. It takes it away from me, but does not put it in the spawner. I am also unable to put in a nether star or golden apple upgrade into it.
Can anyone explain to me what might be going wrong.
