You won't mind that they kill themselves when you hear them in 1.6.

I seen straymav put villagers in the smeltery (makes molten emerald). He then piped it out of the smeltery drain with liquiducts and into a buildcraft tank. Then you can just use bucket to take it out of the tank. It can then be used as decoration I guess. He had mobs fall from a tier 5 spawner into it, which kills them but doesn't harm the loot.
