So what happened to getting a new FTB map? Downloading challenge maps from the launcher?

Pretty much what the subject says. One of the big features of the FTB Launcher was the ability to download challenge maps (specifically a new/updated FTB map) along with the mods all configured and ready to play however apart from the Retro FTB map (which has been played to death by most people here) and the PAX challenge map the only maps you can download are DW20 letsplay maps.

What ever happened to the core of FTB - the FTB map?

They are going to make one, they havent finished it.
You DO realize the 1.6 modpacks are still in beta and they are working on launcher 2.0?
Just give it some time, IIRC slowpoke was going to make one after the 2.0 launcher was released
