Whelp, it's official now, as per an email I got:

Starting on 10 March 2022, your Mojang account, which is used to play Minecraft: Java Edition, must be migrated to a Microsoft account to continue playing.

As I neither have nor desire a Microsoft account, that's all for me folks. Been a good run, had some good memories. But now, I suppose, it is farewell.
