server trouble

I'm trying to get a server going on my pc for me and my brother. Never had internet to do it before. I went through all the steps, made a static ip port forwarded my router and am using the server for mindcrack mod pack.
Now I can get on the server and play, but my brother can't join it. He has tried using my ip and the static ip. Does anyone know what we're doing wrong?

your brother needs to use your internet IP, or external IP. Your local IP is probably something like: 192.168.* .... that is NOT the one to use.
You can get your internet IP by going to your (cable?) modem's status page in a web browser.

I use noip.com to allow my kids in another state (location not mind) to connect to my local server. It is a great way to keep in touch and do something together when we are so far apart.
