Safe fireplace without the bulk

Hello, been playing the Monster pack recently and decided I could use a fireplace. Trouble is, I like things fairly compact and having to dig up my beautiful hardwood floors and put a massive stone case around a tiny block of fire is just silly, so I was wondering if there was a block that simulated fire and also gives off light, but is safe to use around wood.

Haha, perhaps. But torches are so primitive and they lack the "comfort" of a fireplace that I will build and never look at again. But for aesthetics sake, I MUST BUILD THIS FIREPLACE RIGHT! Thanks for the reply anyway's.

Microblock yeah(the sawed kind, not normal slabs) are indeed not counted as normal block by most mechanics.

There are also several ways of disguising stone blocks etc. as wood I am sure, just don't know of many in detail other than stuff like TiCo Drawbridges . But there are others.

I would also think you can use TC to ward the blocks.

Thanks guys for all the helpful suggestions but the microblocks worked excellently. Of course it took ages to dig them all out and saw them up, but it was worth it for a lovely fireplace as a centerpiece to my living room!

If you want to be authentic you should look to make the fireplace with non flammable materials anyway. If you see a real fireplace there will be a decent area in front of if made of slate or heat proof tiles.

Problem is that a single fire will require up to a 5x8x5 box of non-flammable materials around it to make sure it cannot spread. If building with a lot of wooden materials I would be rather paranoid tbh. if it wasn't for some reassurance that the surroundings were fireproof.

That's odd I've seen fireplaces contained well within that without the aid of microbocks. I'll have to brush up on the mechanics of fire spread.

What did this fireplace look like before?

Well the stone jutted out the front into the floor and consequencially my ceiling one floor below it. Of course I could have used Microblocks to fix that and I sort of have with some posts. Looks great and is functional!
