Anyone know if there is a better way to reset the machine after striking obsidian? Having to break and pickup the block, then start the bore from the beginning wastes time and fuel. I;ve tried the various wrenches/screwdriver without success.

Unfortunately, I don't think there's a way to fix the bore other than to pick it up and put it back down.

However, if you can put up to 8192 NM of torque into the bore, it'll go through obsidian. Though that option is a bit more expensive, since the only way to reliably do that is with a hydrokinetic engine, or with a gas turbine with an 8x gear box or a CVT with at least 7 belts.

Thanks for the tip, I gave up the more power strategy after putting a gas turbine into it in creative..... I falsely figured that'd have to be enough when you take into account it's "published" requirements and the fact that the turbine doubles the NM supposedly needed as a "maximum".

A good reason for me to push to get the hydrokinetic system up and running on my Hardcore map.

Hmm...can't you run multiple steam engines into the gearbox that combines 2 input to 1 output and then into an Industrial Coil which you can then set what output you need?

There would be several ways to get the power needed. I would be curious regarding the industrial coils imtermitent power though as the boring machine "breaks" itself if power drops too low. Flywheels would be a consideration but I think it would take an awfull lot of steam engines.....

As far as I can tell, the industrial coil doesn't input and output at the same time, effectively doubling the time it takes to mine.

That's true, but you could eg. charge the coil in your base using gas turbine and then move it with wand of translocation on anything else that can move tile entities.

Industrial coil does input and output as the same time as long as the input matches or exceeds the output.

You don't need any special tool. Just use a pick and the industrial coil will keep its stored power.
