I haven't played minecraft for about four years now.. I think I left just before 1.7 came out. Back then I extensively played Feed The Beast, mainly the largest pack back then (monster maybe, I can´t remember).

Back then I already wondered why there are so many packs with overlap and why new one's frequently come out and old ones get discontinued. I thought it was confusing, convoluted and didn't promote a playing experience in which you are encouraged to explore all content on one map. Don't get me wrong, I still loved it.

Coming back now.. it seems this has not changed. So I'd love some advice on the current packs, since it doesn't really tell you the design philosiphy of the pack on the packaging (e.g. as many mods as posible together, just tech and scifi mods, etc). I'd prefer a pack that's balanced, version 1.12, that has a little of everything (tech, magic, exploration etc).

I know balanced is subjective, but I guess I mean well curated and tweaked, designed to extend the lifespan of an individual world. Some items are changed or removed, and a few popular mods omitted, to keep power roughly the same across mods and eliminate exploits.

Can any veteran FTB player help me out? :)

Quick version: If you see a pack name with the term "expert" in it, there's a fair chance someone has gone to the effort to streamline the pack and ensure its, ahem, "balanced" within itself. Meaning, if one "pulverizer" is better than another one, it probably costs more to run and/or build as well.

Huh, that's new to me. Good info, thanks! Infinity evolved is the only pack I can find so far, but it seems well liked so I'll try it out.

Third party packs have also really improved in quality. All the Mods Expert: Remastered is decent.

If you're still using the FTB Launcher, its also probably time for you to bite the bullet and switch to Twitch.
