I am thinking about switching to the Ultimate pack and trying GregTech again. The last time it was virtually impossible for me and my friends to get any EU generation machine (Except for generators) in the game. We tried to get water mills, solar panels, wind mills, and a bunch of other stuff. The only logical thing that we could get was the Geothermal Generator, and that was it. So I want to know whether or not if I'm going to have to use the Geothermal Generator or use something else.

you could use fuel if you have oil near with petrogen generators apart from that geothermals/thermal generators are going to be the best bet

So if I have oil near me go with Petrogen but if I don't go with Geothermals? Also, I am thinking of going with biomass for my main source of power later in the game. Is that logical or should I make solar panels or something?

iirc bio generators aint worth it for EU think you only get 8k eu per bucket it would be better to use it power engines to make lava in magma crucible

For better or worse, Lava is generally the most efficient answer to any power related question.

As others have said, for earlygame, Lava from the Nether or Magma Crucibles running Netherrack.

Or set up a tree farm or blaze farm and burn it in Generators.

Or you might even be able to set up a self-sustaining Scrap factory which burns Scrap for all of its energy needs. Am I not right? Probably not, that would be quite an exploit.

If you want to do this, I recommend you check out Monkeyfarm's Mob Fission Reactor (that's not what it's actually called, by the way), as seen below:
It may not be the most perfect system, but it sure as hell is cool.

For early-mid gameplay, fuel+diesel generators, and then to bee.. then you can skip the matter fabricator and go straightforward to fusion reactor :D

Some other options:

Make a tree farm and use the logs to power a wall of generators.
Make a tree farm and use the logs (maybe pre-cut them with a sawmill) to power solid fuel boilers >> Steam Turbines.
I am not sure if it is more efficient than Diesel Generators, but you could go with Oil >> Fuel in a liquid fueled boiler >> Steam Turbines.

Steam to EU is not very efficent, since it needs constant steel and maintance. Its so bad, that GregoriusT actually don't uses steam for EU anymore.

Constant steel and maintenance? It takes a ton of steel to get up and running, but I believe it can run for about 50 RL hours before requiring a new Rotor.

Right, something like that.
Whether or not Steam --> EU is worth doing is 100% dependent on your EU needs. I like it, but I'm not a huge user of EU power typically.

The steam turbine and rotor's steel costs and/or durability loss have been nerfed at least 10 times since their inception.

The rotor currently sits at 80 hours average lifetime. You can now also repair a damaged rotor with turbine blades, which allows you to get back to maximum durability with (at most) 12 blades required, where a new rotor would need 24 blades and 3 steel blocks. It's really bordering on neglibile by now.

Also, steam EU is very efficient. It gives you the best MJ->EU conversion ratio outside of overPowered Converters and pulls EU values out of solid fuels especially that are far beyond any other option. The only problem is that it is clunky to set up for large scale production due to the big up-front time requirement to smelt all that iron into steel.

Never let rotor break. Rotor breaks when it reaches 30 000 durability and one blade repairs it by 2 500, so by letting it break you lose stack of steel. Here is simple setup that allows you to prevent it, gate is set to "needs maintenance" -> redstone signal. This trigger activates when rotor have 25 % of durability left, so 8 blades are enough to repair it fully.

So gates can interact with Turbines? I think I gonna use that the next time unless Greg builds a powerplant thats to small again.
