Random Lag Spikes

I have recently downloaded the Feed The Beast Unleashed modpack only to be faced with random lag spikes that last from 1 to 3 seconds at a time. When these lag spikes occur, any mob I am attacking will kill me, because they do not lag/freeze. The lag is NOT internet lag but frame rate lag, meaning my frames drop to about 2 or 3 from my normal 20 or 30. This has become increasingly annoying, because the spikes are noticeable every 10 or 15 seconds. For example: Suppose you are looking into rain. The rain will randomly stop falling and start falling again within a 1 to 3 second period. I know for sure that it is client side rather than server side. Any help will be amazing. Thanks.
