I just installed Roots with my Minecraft 1.11.2. It works because I see the new mobs spawning and I stumbled across some cobblestone pillars with magic but for whatever reason, I cannot get an Old Root to drop. The tutorials all tell me to punch grass and it will drop with 1:40 chance. I have 4 stacks of seeds already and not a single Old Root has dropped. Am I doing something wrong here?

My other question is what type of mods would be good with Roots? Small disclaimer: I cannot run large mod packs on my current system, I just don't have the processing output to handle it, and I am not in the financial situation where I can upgrade just yet. So for the time being, I am running singular mods through Forge API off the default Minecraft Launcher at Minecraft version 1.11.2.

When it comes to Roots, I rush the growth accelerator pillars. Put 4 around a farm and watch and wonder if you actually installed torcherino.

I've found the staves/spells a bit.... underwhelming. I've not gone deeper in and gotten to sprites yet, so I'm not sure what to offer as another mod to add.

Yeah, Roots seems decidedly underwhelming, on the whole. I love the aesthetic, so it's really disappointing that it doesn't actually do anything much worthwhile. I mean, the special unique mod tools are... identical to iron tools except that they self repair.

When a mod's top tier gear is mostly obsoleted by vanilla diamond equipment, I feel that's not a good thing.

I believe Embers might be a nice mod to complement Roots - it's also by Elucent (the mod author of Roots), and has a nice aesthetic as well as some handy blocks.

Roots stopped development for 1.10 back in December and has switched over to Roots 2 for 1.11. Most of the online documentation is still for the old version and Elucent was not happy with how it was working out so he has changed how you progress in the mod now. You are now playing with a very beta mod which has its pros and cons.

Maybe you can think of a way to utilize this new ritual:

or maybe you can make some new friends:

I currently use the lifeleech staff, which is pretty powerful and the growth staff is really nice for ender lillys. Also it is a nice mod if you want to spread gras somewhere etc.

It certainly has its uses. :)
