I have a fair-sized, flat pool of lava source blocks that I'd like to "relocate", and I don't want to do it manually via the bucket-brigade or tin-cell-brigade.

So I figure the best bet is to use a Redpower pump and grate. I've never tried this before though, and I'm wondering... if I position the grate at one particular spot on the edge of the lake, does it actually end up sucking out all the source blocks? How does that work? Does it have a range?

Thanks in advance.

The radius of a redpower grate is approx 100m iirc. It will collect all source blocks within that area that are "linked" in some way to the source/flowing blocks the grate is touching (ie: a source block 50m away is touching a series of source and flowing blocks that form a solid line to the grate).

as someone that has used one of these before to clear out a huge area of water. Yeah you little pool will be fine as long as all the source blocks are touching and are all in loaded chuncks. Also you can run he pipe out to a 2nd grate and fill the source blocks in your new location. Two things to note. RP pump is kind of slow and on the filling side if your space at level fills up it can pump source blocks up on top of the level cuasing it to over spill so be mindful of that.
