I've played a few other mod packs and thought i would try out ftb infinity. Some of the other packs start you out with a book explaining different mods in the pack. Also somewhat of a quest line to get you through them. I've tried manually searching through all the items with nei but cant seem to find anything like this. Was just wondering if there is a book like that in the pack.

What you're thinking of is the quest book from Hardcore Questing Mode. It's not in Infinity, and would kind of break the whole point of the pack. Infinity is what's known as a "kitchen sink" pack, meaning that it has lots of mods with near-vanilla configs and no real focus, which is exactly what HQM in packs like Agrarian Skies, ME4, etc. provides.

Also, simply adding the mod to your Infinity instance won't work- every single one of those quests has to be written manually by the developers of the pack, and the Infinity developers simply had no time- or reason, considering the purpose of the pack- to put anything like that together.

Thanks for the quick reply! I'm not really looking for a quest line of that sort. More or less a quick rundown of how certain mods work. Basically I don't want to have to constantly search a wiki for how to advance further in a pack. As you said though its not in this pack so looks like wiki it is.

Several of the mods in Infinity have in game documentation. Open Blocks and Tinker's Construct have books in inventory when you spawn (and TiCo will spawn more books as your progress through the mod), while some books (Thaumcraft's Thauminomicon, Botania's Lexicon, Witchery's ______, etc.) have recipes to create them in game. In particular, I've found Thaumcraft and Botania to have pretty intuitive literature. None of them are quite HQM, but they are enough of the basics to get you started in the right direction.

Thauminomicon is a bookshelf tapped with a wand, or you can likely find one as dungeon loot. Botania is a book (might be a book and quill) and an oak sapling in the crafting grid.

If you just want to learn about different mods, youtube is your friend. Just search for whatever mod or modpack you want to learn about and you should get some decent results. If your totally lost, you might try Direwolf20's singleplayer series, although he plays his own pack so things may be different from other packs.
