Hello!

I have recently been able to make a quarry by collecting a few diamonds. I plan on powering it with 3 Hobbyist steam engines running off of peat. I was wondering if this would be efficient, or if i should try something else. I know most of what to know about TE and Buildcraft, but somewhat of a noob to IC2(only have a macerator, generator, solar panel, and a batbox). Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Quarries will accept power from 2mj to 49mj a tick, and further information is below in better posts.

The quarry's effective max consumption is now 44.6 MJ/t.
It used to be something like 11.5 MJ/t.

However, this is NOT the most efficient use of energy. If you want to stretch it out, a redstone energy cell set to emit 7 MJ/t will keep the quarry running for more total blocks.

So its better to have multiple quarries each set to use 7mj/t from a redstone energy cell. A bit resource intensive, but it saves you resources once you get them running.
