quarry glitch

i have been messing around with the quarry and 3 times in a row it will mine a few layers down then it will glitch and the laser will try to break blocks but it cant and i cant figure out whats wrong anyone able to help pls?

Is this in single player or multiplayer?

Did you add or remove any mods or config (this includes adding optifine)?
