Should I clear up some room on my computer to allow FTB to work?

Well, I'm stumped, though I have some ideas how this problem keeps happening.

1. I have a suckish amount of memory
2. The FTB client is not allowed to use so much space on my Mac (Yes I do have a mac read the Pre-Fix)

I really wonder what this has to do with this, I don't have the Crash log because this is not a crash, but I have the client log:
[21:51:05] [INFO] MinecraftLauncher.setMemory:114: Setting MinMemory to 256
[21:51:05] [INFO] MinecraftLauncher.setMemory:116: Setting MaxMemory to 1024[DOUBLEPOST=1361080881][/DOUBLEPOST]Please help me :)

If you only have 1GB of RAM on your system total you are probably not going to be able to run FTB. Sorry about that. :(

RAM, not Hard drive space. Sorry, I don't know how to direct you where to check your RAM on a Mac.

There are two types of memory, RAM, and storage space, the memory FTB is referring to is RAM, to check how much you've got, go to the apple in the corner, and then "about this mac" where it says memory, thats what it means. 2GB should be enough for SSP.

Yeah but, the problem is the I have 4GB in my memory, so I don't know how I would fix this?

ok, so you'll be fine with 4GB ram, in the launcher, click options, and just drag the slider for max ram to around 2, I've found 1.75 works fine for most SSP uses :)

The problem seems to be that the slider only goes to 1G. Personally I have 6G and would like to dedicate 2G to the game. Can't. I've been combing these forums and others looking for a way to increase beyond 1G to the launcher/game. All the answers given simply tell people that its to prevent people from allocating more RAM than they have and prevent crashes. Well, sorry but the game crashes without enough RAM as well. Who are you to decide if I am capable of correctly adjusting my RAM usage? IF you are allowing any adjustment at all (up to 1G), then you shouldn't put such a meager cap on it. Particularly in these days with such high capacity machines. So please, answer the (general) question asked:

What command line, additional parameter, option settings, etc., can be done/used to allow the launcher/game to dedicate more memory for its use?

By the way, I'm new to this particular launcher and mod packs, and I am impressed with it and how it adds such richness to the game. The memory issue seems to be the only issue I've thus encountered. It is also not just myself, but I have seen quite a lot of comments regarding it, and no straight answers.

The cap might be caused by 32-bit Java. Check you have 64-bit Java. The cap in the launcher is dynamic and based on what the launcher detects that your system can support. If you have 6GB you should have a 64-bit OS and so should be using 64-bit Java. Switching will boost your performance in general anyway.

Actually you are both correct and incorrect. I do have the 64 bit java installed, however there is a cap in the OS settings for the java that I found. Windows users can find this in the control panel under Java. Go to the java tab, view the settings. Under the run time parameters enter in: -Xincgc -Xmx2G -- replace 2G with however much you need java to use safely. This provides java system-wide to use up to 2G. My game now runs very smoothly! :)
