Im looking for some tips on reliable power generation. Resources are not a problem. I'm not new to FTB. Normally when i do this i use solar panels or lava related power.

My bad, i started another thread for the same thing. But im fairly new to FTB and all my knowledge was based off IC2 and solar panels not IC2exp. So im kinda looking for some ideas on some good powersetups.

My current favourite is to find an oil spout, run a half-dozen refineries off of TE3 compression dynamos (oil jumpstart then the produced fuel), fuel in a RC tank is like liquid energy (IC2, BC and TE3)

DW20, aye?

Forestry Multifarm to provide wood -> charcoal as well as excess saplings for ethanol to fuel both solid and liquid fueled RailCraft's 36 LP steam boilers and feed the steam into Commercial/Industrial Steam Engines for MJ or TE3's Steam Dynamo for RF.
RailCraft also have those Steam Turbine for EU. So there you go if you do not want to go solar.
Or you could go hunt for oil spouts, pump and tesseract them back into your base to refine into fuel which you can then feed into either liquid fuel steam boilers (again) or TE3's Compression Dynamo.
If you have a mob farm up, you might wanna give the liquid prometheum(sp?) a try as well, I do not have experience with it.
Running multiple types of crops can help fuel MFR's BioReactor too for getting BioFuel which MFR's Bio Generator uses to generate 16 MJ/t.
There are a lot of ways to generate power now compared to early 2013, so go tinker with them. :)

Lava remains, in my opinion, the easiest start, and has the advantage of being useful for RF/MJ and EU. 30 minutes mining (YMMV) and you should have plenty of resources for a Magma Dynamo, Pulverizer, Redstone Furnace, and some cans for lava. After that, you have a fair number of choices for mid/late game energy. I still like steam, but the barrier for entry is considerably higher than it was in 1.5. To be fair, once you get to the Nether (or a Mystcraft lava ocean), lava is viable for a long time, now that Dynamos are 80RF/t, so if building complex/interesting power generation isn't your thing, you can just keep spamming Dynamos.

Whats the best way to pump lava outta the nether? Ive seen tesseracts being used and enderthermic pumps. I was thinking of pumping lava into a large holding tank, the one from railcraft. Then use that lava to run my IC2 and TE3 stuff. Can one tesseract or enderthermic pump keep up with that?

Short answer: probably. Long answer, it depends on how many consumers you have. The tesseract will be no problem, the bottleneck will be the pump. That said, I'm running something like 20 Magma Dynamos and 2 IC2 Geothermal Generators and 1 Enderthermic Pump is keeping up without any problem. I'm sure you can reach a point where you're consuming more lava than 1 pump can produce, but I've never hit it.

Side note: Buffers are good, but I should note I'm not using one. The pump will not keep pumping if nothing's using the output. So, you might consider saving the resources for the Iron Tank until you really need it. That said, tanks full of lava are cool =)
