I just updated to Forge 1389 from 1291, and Optifine makes it crash now. I need higher versions of Forge for some mods like Buildcraft, but I was wondering, at what version did something change that OF isn't compatible anymore? Is there a particular version that's more stable than the latest?

According to their MC forum page, HD B6 Standard is compatible with Forge 1291. If that's the version your using (note that B6 Light is NOT compatible with Forge), I'd post there for a possible resolution.

I had version 1291 before and it did work; to get it working again I'll have to backdate several of my mods and that would be a slightly bigger pain than not having Optifine. Really, the better chunkloading is the main thing I want it for. Plus connected textures and random mobs, but that's less important than avoiding world holes.

Looks like that's going to be a problem. Since Optifine's moved on to 1.8, you'll just have to hope they feel like updating the 1.7 version to later versions of Forge. They seem to focus more on vanilla performance, and only have a vague concern about Forge compatibility, which is one of the reasons I gave up on it some time ago.

Aha! I found out that Optifine 1.7.10 B6 still works up through Forge 1388, and that's good enough for all of my mods! Woohoo! =D
