So I was browsing the MinecraftForums and I noticed this little gem: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/2201440-opencomputers/ It looks pretty cool actually. It's in beta so there's probably going to be a lot of changes, but I like it a lot better than computercraft as far as balancing goes. I've yet to try out some programming with it, but I'm going to install it and see how it goes. Wish me luck. What do you guys think of this? Better or worse than ComputerCraft?

I think its worth to install both. Why? well OpenComputers has persistence if that is necessary, however the other has the bigger community and a lot more premade programs that people can use. I doubt that OpenComputers will quite get the community CC has, but we will have to wait and see if it gets something that is "equivalent" to OpenPeripherals, which I believe will happen because of OpenComputers being open source

I guess the important thing for me that OpenComputers has given is that the mod developers of Computercraft have started thinking about changing some things in their own mod aswell, so this could lead to some very interesting changes in computercraft

I agree. Some healthy competition could do both mods some good. As long as it doesn't devolve into a pissing contest between the two.

OpenComputers doesn't work on Mac OS X or FreeBSD. Despite the relative rarity of people using these, that stops a sane modpack from including the mod as its part. Okay I believe it supports both now.

In addition, the usage of native libraries for running user code poses a *GIGANTIC* security risk. I'd rather not see this mod in any modpack. And the native libraries make it more secure than using the JVM nowadays. Gee, what an idiot I were!

Well keep in mind that it is in beta and these things can definitely change with time.

It's it beta running C# libraries. It certainly won't suddenly start using Java before it goes gold, that would require a complete rewrite, and a new beta.
