2: depends your prfernce. Do you like making ic2 power or bc. Ic2 is a bit easier. They both do the same thing.

Pulverizer gets you 10% extra metals. And not only that, the extra is actually gold from copper for example. The setup is a bit more complicated, requiring a separate engine for each machine when you're just starting.

Tartarus.. I mean at work. Same thing really.
1) Yes- eventually, sapling drop is kinda low- but given the size of the trees you'll get more than a few.

2) Pulveriser, then induction smelter with pulveriser supplying sand.
When you get your head around the mechanics, its a hell of a lot easier to setup and you get a special 5-10% bonus on top of doubling.

Don't actually use induction smelter for anything else but gold. You get only a 5% chance for rich slag that can be used to get one extra ingot from any ore but all other ores besides gold get 10% extra pulverized metals and therefore 10% extra ingots instead of the 5%. Gold doesn't get any extra in the Pulverizer so that's why it should be induction smelted. But I guess if you're playing Mindcrack (you didn't really specify, GT actually matters in this) you could use rich slag on many GT ores that have more useful metals than the TE basics.
