So I've been running a Mindcrack server now since New Years day and have updated it accordingly when patches have come out. We still have a loyal community with about 15 active players per night with many other that come on from time to time.

Apart from the odd issue and bit of lag now again the guys are well and truly hooked!

So looking at starting a new world with the ultimate pack (instead of Mindcrack) as soon as the new 1.5.x version has been released.

My questions are:-

  • Would it be easy to migrate buildings (not emphasis on machinery or infrastructure) to from Mindcrack to Ultimate?
  • What additional mods would you consider in additional to the ultimate mods. I have added AE to the current server which has transformed the game positively.
  • What anti grieving apps should I be considering to run. The server has always been open to anyone (new players have to install the 1.4.7 version of the AE mod) but then they are straight on. I would like to your recommendations of what anti-grieving mods i should be looking at?
Normally our series of minecraft serves (mostly vanilla) tend to last between 5-6 months as so I want to make sure when the new release comes out I Have everything in place and tested prior to allowing the community to start playing.

The Server is a i3 intel with 16gig dedicated server hosted in a DC with plenty of bandwidth.

There's no Ultimate pack coming until 1.6. Most people wanting to play the 1.5 versions of the mods are using custom mod packs. The official 1.6 pack could be months from now

I have a similar situation and curious as well regardless of updated version. New server is set up, could we just install Ultimate and drop in the old map and have it fairly smooth or does some tweaks need to be hammered out. I realize we would have to travel beyond explored chunks for things like AE quartz, but as far as item IDs and such...
Or how hard is it to mcedit out the bases to schematics and drop them on a new map? Only now started to look into this, but maybe someone could light the way or stop me before I waste the time trying to figure it out only to find out a easier way. :)

ok so Ultimate sounds like it will not be updated to late summer. My world could do with a refresh though and basically i holding off till the latest spate of upgrades are released.

So I will probably stick with Mindcrack as the guys love Gregtech etc and add a couple of extra mods. So my questions (and Lohengrin )still stand. Specifically around the anti-grieving tools?

There's a 1.5.2 ultimate pack currently undergoing internal testing that should hopefully be out "soon".

It won't be the "recommended" version when it launches, but it'll be the updated versions of most of the core mods (minus Redpower which has been removed) so it depends on whether you want to wait for a "recommended" Ultimate 1.6 or not.

Assuming the 1.5.2 appears to be stable from general feedback when its issued and there is a clear upgrade path to 1.6.0 then i would have a dabble.

The latter kinda depends on whether RP2 makes it into 1.6. If it does, then you're gonna have a world-gen issue upgrading from 1.5 to 1.6 as a 1.5 world won't contain marble, basalt or nikolite.
