Well, could you check my math, then? (it's 3:43 AM here^^)
Because if it is right, one tank can store more than 3 redstone energy cells, not quite what I would call abysmal.

Sure, it might be worse than other systems, but it has the benefit not to have any additional cost to store the "energy", where the lava route needs nether rack to be efficient, so you need to spend some form of energy to mine it in the nether.

But as I have a big lack of sleep these days, I might be completely wrong with my numbers, and make quite big errors on calculations.

I am wrong. all the steam calculations are done in mB and not in B.

Multiply all storage from my math by 1000 as well as all durations.

1 bucket is 200 MJ, 16 is 3200 MJ

you need 1000x fewer tanks.

This makes it slightly better, but still abysmal.

Need being the key word. I'm still going to go with your earlier suggestion. Millions of tanks, here I come!

in my oppinion, it seems like buildcraft power is not meant to nbe stored --> infact, you are using engines to make the power. So for me ,(dont get me wrong, i really like redstone energy cells) redstone energycells shoudnt exist in a fully balanced world (neither tesseracts). but, this is still a game and things shouldnt be taken to realistic...

soo i´m always using an array of redstone energycells (quick acces storage) and a lavatank (mass storage) (redpowerstyle) for cheap storage.

All this talk of tanks and redstone energy cells just has me imagining a new railcraft tank block that lets you store MJ in proportion to the volume of liquid redstone currently in the tank. And since its 1 bucket of redstone per energy cell (I think) that means a max size railcraft tank can store ~6.2 BILLION MJ.

... Yeah, that seems pretty improbable.

Maybe instead of the railcraft folks, you should ask soaryn instead.
