i have finally gotten to the point where i can make a wand of the adept but do not have the necessary air shard to do it i have spent hours mining at different levels and nothing so far. my base is in a meadows biome and close to an autumn one. i dont have the ability to make quarys or the like and currently my only way to get materials is to mine them myself. what am i doing wrong ive gone through like half a stack of ruby picks (enchanted) to no avail. what am i doing wrong? am i just the least lucky person on earth?

wand of the APPRENTICE uses any shard, wand of the adept uses the 4 elemental shards.
try mining near a ravine or open area. I believe they spawn kinda close to the aspect the represent. I always find fire shards relatively close to lava, wate shards relatively close to water. I could be wrong but that's been my experience. they're never right next to lava for example but kinda close.

I think the types of shards you are most likely to find is biome dependent as well. My tunnel bore has been under an ocean for ages, and I'm swimming in aqueous shards. So for air? Not sure exactly, but I think in TC2 vaporous crystals were most common in extreme hills biomes. So maybe try that?
I think you might find more Air shards in Plains biomes. Fire in desert, Earth in Extreme Hills, and Water in Swamps and Ocean biomes. You find all shards everywhere, but some shards are more abundant. ExtraBiomes is a whole other matter and their biomes are different. I live in a Meadows biome and I got a ton of Earth shards rather than Air shards and the biome is very plains like for tolerances.
if he doesn't have the ability to setup a quarry, he's likely far from being able to breed stark bees.
