First up, I'd like to say that I think that Thaumcraft is a fantastic mod, and I think that version 3 is really pretty and gives you a lot of options and some fantastic toys.
My issue is around the research, I think that it's a great idea and that it works really well, but my issue is that you can research everything without having made a single "toy" from the mod.
Right now, I'm late game, and I'm only just getting started with TC3, as a result, I'm not short of resources, so I can pretty much throw whatever I want into the research table to get the research, the only reason I haven't got everything is that I'm still missing the research that you need to get the fragments to make.
I like the way that you need to discover certain things before you can discover others, but I'd like to see an additional to that that you actually have to produce the item in question before you get the next research. So as an example, before you can do the basic trasmutation, you need to have created some Alumentium and Nitor. Maybe something like a % chance of the reaction producing a new research, with the stuff that you make a lot of being a reasonably remote chance (say 10%), while the stuff that you make only a few of has a pretty good chance (say 90%).
Just my tuppenceworth.
