Hi -- I'm going to do my best to summarize this whole ordeal concisely. This huge chunk of text is mostly background information to preemptively answer some questions.
tl;dr: How do I connect an instance of Minecraft on MultiMC to the FTB launcher? Is this even possible?

- My friend is hosting a FTB Academy server, and I want to play on it, so naturally I need to get the mod. The problem is that the modpack takes up quite a bit of room. On my PC, I have two drives: a C drive (faster, but doesn't have much storage left, and it's shared between my whole family) and a D drive (less powerful, but tons more space and I'm basically the only person who uses it). What I didn't realize when I moved Minecraft months ago is that moving the Minecraft/Mojang folder visible under "Documents" does not do anything to the .minecraft folder in %Appdata%/Roaming, which remained in the C drive. So when I went to try to install the modpack, all the mod data went straight to that .minecraft folder rather than the D drive, and obviously I don't want that because the C is where I'm trying to save room. Yes, I uninstalled and reinstalled Minecraft and changed the download and install locations to the D drive. It did not work -- the .minecraft folder is still created every time.
- So, I found two solutions to this problem:
- One was to use a program that would let me make a "symbolic link" from the .minecraft folder to the D drive. I tried this and ultimately the program wouldn't work on my computer.
- The second solution was to use MultiMC, an open-source Minecraft launcher. I did this and installed it to the D drive, as well as the FTB launcher, and yes, everything is set to D drive. Now my problem is using FTB with MultiMC, because I don't think Twitch can detect instances from MultiMC so that's not an option.
- Quick note: MultiMC has some FTB modpacks preset into it, including Academy. However, it's not the most up-to-date version. Additionally, when I tried running this preset version, it would load for about two minutes and then crash, presumably because the D drive is less powerful. The solution to this would be to change the RAM threshold on the FTB launcher, but I don't know how to get the two applications (FTB launcher and MultiMC) to recognize each other.
- Anyway -- I tried running a regular instance of Minecraft on MultiMC and it works just fine. So, I looked up how to get FTB on MultiMC, but all the forum posts I found were about transferring already-existing FTB saves from the vanilla launcher to MultiMC. I have never played (or successfully installed, LOL) FTB so obviously I don't have any save to transfer. If I made a FTB save on vanilla launcher and then tried to transfer it, that would defeat the whole purpose of the operation because we'd be right back to .minecraft in the C drive.
- I don't know how to move forward from here. I'm not particularly knowledgeable about computers so everything I've done has been improvised from Google searches, and I've finally hit a dead end.
