  • if i have two mods that generates the same type of ore and i disable world ore generation for one of the mods will i reduce the overall ore in the world by half (given that they generate equally) or will the other mod replace the missing half?
  • what mod produces the most copper/tin ore Forestry, IC2, Tinker's Construct
  • what y levels do copper/tin ore spawn for IC2 and Tinker's Construct

Each mod's ore generation is completely separate of each other, so if you want a similar amount of a specific ore generated, you will need to tweak the configs of the mod that's generating ores. Note that not all mods allow you to configure this, hence why in many FTB packs Thermal Expansion is used to generate the ores since it has a very customizable ore generation config.

As far as I know, Forestry and IC2 don't allow oregen configs; TiC does. Then again, there's Thermal Expansion, which has the most configurable oregen (and thus potentially produces the "most", depending on your config).

No clue to be honest. I hate to keep tooting TE's horn, but it allows configuring of the min/max oregen height, so you always know what height which ore generates on.

Another alternative would be Metallurgy3, but that would require even more tweaking and turning off of ores you don't care about in a "tech" environment. But then again, it provides amazing control of oregen.

I completely forgot about TE. after looking in the config for TE i have to agree with you

forestry does allow you to skip its copper and tin on world gen but they arent configurable enough or as flexible enough than what metallurgy and Thermal Expansion has to offer IMHO if you want a good tech ore gen use thermal expansion's config and see if its synergistic enough with metallurgy on I havent generated a new world ever since tweaking my ore gen... as for IC2... well let's just say I stopped playing IC2, but thermal expansion has a better written config than metallurgy so its a good start for newbies

I posted some ore generation results here, using Thermal Expansions config for world gen with forestry tin and copper disabled.

You can also go nuts and use Metallurgy and just disable all the other ores besides what you want. It is by far the most configurable outside of Custom Ore Gen mod. You can even have ores spawn in specific dimensions. One step further is Custom ore Gen mod where you can control vein size, vein location, and many other things. I highly suggest looking them both up and seeing which fits you more.

If your pack includes TE, and you don't want to add other mods, then TE custom world gen is the way to go. I'm finding I am disabling all other mod ore gen, and then custom world gen to generate it all. (side note, I still allow TInkers Construct to generate it's aluminium and ore gravels)
Just make sure to always test what is generated. Results may vary from what you are expecting.

Anyone knows how to config the custom ore gen of TE3 to included other mods' ores then, like Osmium in Mekanism?

New Mekanism build has now Ore gen config you may want to check it out According to King Lemming though TE3 confg can't support other ore gens because of the way mod codes have been written plus a Jetpack WIP

It's quite easy. Disable the ore gen in Mekanism, then add an corresponding entry (or entries) in the WorldCustomGen.txt file in the COFH folder in the config folder.

Edit CoFHWorld.cfg to enable custom world gen. This will read the WorldCustomGen.txt file and fill CoFHWorld-Generation.cfg with the information.

With the power of Ore Dictionary you ensure only one type of ore is generated that can be used by all mods.

Example would be disabling the osmium gen inside Mekanism's config file and copy word for word into the WorldCustomGen file?
