More ram on server

i have a server and i want to allocate more ram i understand how but for some reason when i try to start it once the settings are changed it wont start this is the normal starting code

java -Xms512m -Xmx1G -jar FTB-Beta-A.jar

this is what i made it

java -Xms1024 -Xmx2G -jar FTB-Beta-A.jar nogui

whats wrong with this code
 
yeah sorry that was there i just typed it wrong and also it dosent work even with lower or capital M it only seems to work if it is default ram
 
now it opens but i get a java virtual machine error could not do head size but i know it should work
 
Good, now atleast we have an error to search. Try googling it, or maybe someone else can help. Maybe you don't have that much ram?
 
i have 8 gigs of ram and im only trying to use 3 lol i dont even usually run more than 2 xD
 
Are you positive you have the 64 bit version of java installed? If so instead of 1024m try 1g its the same thing but its worth a shot.
 
it runs slow now because i have to many machines more ram makes it run better i also have the 64 bit for sure and i have tried that nothing seems to work
 
Okay another question for you. What operating system are you using. I would like to know how much free ram you have when you go to try and start the server.
 
windows 7
i generally only use 2 gigs or so of ram daily and when playing minecraft with the server running its 3-4 or about 50%

intel i3 core
8gb ddr3 ram
1tb hard drive
ati radeon 2600 hd pro graphcis

You don't need to change the minimum, it will always use the max if it can.
 
i left minimum the same and just changed max but it still wont work i think its a mc bug
 
yes it did for me also but they dont run on my computer for some reason ik i have plenty ram open and its worked before but it wont work right now
