Mob not killed by a player dont drop loot?

One of the people on my server and i spent a few hours working on getting a blaze spawner from a overworld dungeon, using a Diamond Dolly. Set up a simple spawn farm where the blaze spawns and hits water and dies water flows to obsidian pipe and into a tesseract. i have watched this spawn for about 1/2 hour total and have yet to see a blaze die and drop and item.

Does this type of mob farm no longer work?

if a blaze is killed by water it doesn't drop xp or items i think

Nothing shall drop unless it is killed by the player.

Okay cause last time i was on a FTB direwolf server we had a blaze spawner set up with a water killing them and racked up hella blaze rods. Thanks foor correcting my ignorance.
