Hello again, I'm once again back asking for help on making a modpack. I've been looking for over an hour for an answer to an annoying question but I've seen not a single hint of an answer to this.

You see, I'm currently using MineTweaker to increase my modpack's difficulty. And I've been using a combo of TE and MFR for a bulk of my tech. Now, I understand that you are not supposed to publish add-ons outside of the IC2 forum, or something along those lines. However, I've heard of IC2 addons sometimes being used in modpacks. So I'm really confused.

If someone could help tell me if it's allowed to use MineTweaker on IC2 in modpacks, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

I don't think there's any real rule about using Minetweaker in modpacks. Just don't use it on Rotary/ReactorCraft, as the author of those mods, Reika, seems to dislike Minetweaker from what I've seen.

Tartarus.. I mean at work. Same thing really.
Private use is fine.
A few mod authors dislike it, so you won't get any official help with bugs/crashes/gameplay ect.

Check the IC2 forums- or ask on there.

I think Reika says you can't redistribute his work if you minetweaker the recipes.
(so you can't customise for a modpack, but your personal client should be fine- check his threads anyway)

Just to be clear, you can do anything you bloody well please on your personal client, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. It only becomes a question when you distribute to other people, and, in practice, only then when you make it public.

@Celestialphoenix Not a critique of your post, just a clarification of phrasing, if I understood you correctly.

Okay, so after reading through again I'll just assume I guessI cannot publish a pack on a forums that includes a modified IC2.

So, would making a private pack that spreads to friends via e-mail work? Or is that still considered public?

Here we get into the world of technicalities (and de jure/de facto distinctions, which is a topic for another thread). Technically, yes, emailing a mod pack to a friend is 'distributing' it, in the same way that giving a mix CD to a friend is technically piracy. In practice, there's a world of difference to sending a modpack to a friend and posting it somewhere anyone can download it. As long as you and your friends keep it among yourselves, no one will know, and no one will care.
If you want to be 100% kosher, you can send your friends links to the mods to download themselves and email them the configs, which would be fine, except a lot of the links expire when new releases come out (which could break the pack). This is to say nothing of the extra hassle in installing everything on each client, and the tech support required by people with varying degrees of mod savvy.

Thanks Bagman! I really appreciate your post! So, I guess I'll just keep the pack private between me and my friends.

p.s. Is there any chance that if, by the pack's completion and it's really well-made it might be able to be cleared as okay with the dev?

See this link for the process to get a pack hosted on the FTB launcher. Takes a bit of pick and spade work, but it's certainly possible, if that's your goal.

Just a minor clarification. Modified IC2 should be okay. Just ask one Mr. Gregorius T, who does a stellar job of modifying it (and everything else while he is at it ;) ) It is modified Rotarycraft that you cannot distribute. Raika actually took the pains to make his recipes inaccessible to MineTweaker. :p
