"Minecraft window size" in launcher options not working

Details of the issue:
The "Minecraft window size" option in the advanced options pane in the launcher does not behave as expected. Most of the time, any input in the y dimension is ignored, and the x dimension is used instead, but even the square window is not the same size as the actual number used in the x input.

The only references I could find to this bug were from two different posts in January and December of 2013. The December post offered a workaround that I was unable to use, though it could be my lack of understanding.

I encountered this bug in the 1.3.6 (not positive of the actual version number) launcher, so I upgraded to the most recent launcher and the problem still persists.​
